My wife and I got engaged at the George V Hotel in Paris, so that city has always played a special place in our hearts. We wrote Dorling Kindersley’s Top Ten Paris guidebook together, as well as Paris Revealed for the AA. My wife and I were the main authors – and she took the photographs – for the Official Travel Guide for the Rugby World Cup, when it was held in France in 2007. We spent several glorious weeks touring the main venue cities, and wrote the chapters on Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Montpellier, St-Etienne & Paris. Donna even got to appreciate the beauty of rugby stadiums.
We’ve also updated guides to France and to Provence and my wife has written a guide to Nice and the Côte d’Azur (all for the AA). I’ve written about Cognac and champagne, learned to play pétanque in Provence, covered the Painters’ Route throughout Provence and the Côte d’Azur, and met Renoir’s grandson in Cagnes-sur-Mer. He was on his way to play boules.
