Arc de triomphe Paris city at sunset - Arch of Triumph and Champ

My wife and I got engaged at the George V Hotel in Paris, so that city has always played a special place in our hearts. We wrote Dorling Kindersley’s Top Ten Paris guidebook together, as well as Paris Revealed for the AA. In addition I’ve also written or contributed to the following guides to Paris, which include specialised guides about Paris food and drink, its Métro, and a literary history of the city:

  • Time for Food: Paris (Thomas Cook)
  • Colours of Paris (AA)
  • Paris Revealed (AA)
  • Bloom’s Literary Guide to Paris (Chelsea House)
  • Going Underground Paris (Navigator Guides)
  • Moon Metro Guide to Paris (Moon Publications)

My Discover Paris guide for Thomas Cook won a Benjamin Franklin Award in the USA for the best guidebook to Paris.

Here’s my choice of the Ten Best Paris Blogs, written for 101 Holidays.

We spent several glorious weeks touring the main venue cities, and wrote the chapters on Lyon, Marseille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Montpellier, St-Etienne & Paris. Donna even got to appreciate the beauty of rugby stadiums.

Donna and I also jointly publish the Beyond Travel Guides, which are also available for the Kindle. To date there are guides to Bordeaux, Marseille, Lyon, Toulouse, and Montpellier.

We’ve also updated guides to France and to Provence and my wife has written a guide to Nice and the Côte d’Azur (all for the AA). I’ve written about Cognac and champagne, learned to play pétanque in Provence, covered the Painters’ Route throughout Provence and the Côte d’Azur, and met Renoir’s grandson in Cagnes-sur-Mer. He was on his way to play boules.

Here’s my cover story on what to do in winter in Paris, for Msafiri, the excellent inflight magazine for Kenya Airways. Click on the cover to see the story.
